About Me

I am Kanchhi Dolma Hyolmo, a Mt. Everest summiteer, trekking guide, climber, and explorer. My hometown is Helambu, 01, Sindhupalchok, Nepal. While I am talking about myself, I must share that I was a migrant worker, which is why I spent many years anonymously outside of Nepal. The struggle and trial that I faced in a foreign country have resolved me to come back to Nepal and do meaningful work in my own country and community. When I returned to Nepal, I decided to represent Hyolmo women in the mountaineering sector by climbing Mt. Everest.

Why the mountaineering sector?

First and foremost, I had always wanted to climb Mount Everest.  And I chose to encourage women by climbing Mt. Everest and to make a small contribution to the global campaign for “women’s empowerment“. Also, to send a message to the Nepali youth and to encourage young women to take on leadership roles and participate in outdoor adventures, encourage them to contribute their valuable time, hard work, and passion to the development of their own country.

The Everest expedition was a huge decision for me. As we all know, climbing Mt. Everest is not easy. The Everest expedition was not easy for me because I am the first one in my family to take up climbing. Also, I don’t have a team or anyone who can give advice, suggestions, or ideas while climbing Everest. That’s why, from the beginning of my Everest journey, it was very difficult for me.

As everyone knows, climbing Everest is very costly, and raising money is a significant undertaking. Although it was really tough at first, people eventually came to trust me and support me. I was really lucky that my community generously provided financial support when I announced my Everest expedition and requested donations. My family is also really encouraging; they appreciate the decisions I make and always give me their full support. They continued to encourage me without exhibiting any signs of stress, but they were also very concerned for me because, as we all know, climbing a mountain is a risky undertaking.

The big day of my life

The biggest day of my life was May 23, 2019, at 5:20 am, when I was on top of Mt. Everest. I was shocked, surprised, and numb, and I couldn’t utter a single word. because I couldn’t believe that “I am on the top of Mt. Everest.” I was eventually and officially recognised as the first Hyolmo female Everest summiteer.

Experience:

My experience in the tourism industry spans four years. During this time, I had the opportunity to travel throughout Nepal. Also, to give my best in this sector, I had done some training. like the trekking guide course, the introductory climbing course, the wilderness first aid course, the basic mountaineering course, and the liaison officer course.

I also climbed Ganja La Chuli Peak, Chulu Far East Peak, Lobuche Peak, and Mount Everest in 2019. In addition, in 2021, I was a part of an unclimbed peak in Helambu’s Aama Bangrima peak. And I was also part of the Gangchenpo Peak Expedition in 2022, but because of health issues, I couldn’t go climbing.

I was also part of exploring the different trekking routes in Nepal. Upper Helambu Circuit, Ganjala Pass DPR, some sections of Lower GHT, and the Ganesh Himal Base Camp Trek are examples.
